Champions named at Gelbvieh Junior Regional Show

The 2009 American Gelbvieh Junior Association Western Regional Show was held June 5 to 7 in Yankton, S.D. Kelly Bruns, Brookings, S.D., evaluated the 32 entries. The South Dakota Junior Gelbvieh Association hosted the regional show.

Grand Champion Bred and Owned Balancer Bull was BVLK U111. This April 3, 2008 son of WRWR MR. RED DAWG 5335 was exhibited by Britney Volek, Highmore, S.D.

Grand Champion Market Steer was exhibited by Haley Ringkob, Springfield, S.D. This 1,240-pound steer was sired by TR Mr. New Design 1407 S6.

Amanda Hannings, Hartley, Iowa, showed the Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer, a 1,150-pound steer, sired by BEA 407P.

Winning Grand Champion Gelbvieh Female and Champion Bred and Owned Gelbvieh honors was RTRT DARCI 189U. This Jan. 8, 2008 heifer was sired by RID R Collateral 2R and owned by Michael Rea, Berthoud, Colo.

Reserve Grand Champion Gelbvieh Female and Reserve Bred and Owned Gelbvieh was BVLK U121, shown by Britney Volek, Highmore, S.D. The heifer was born on Nov. 10, 2008 and sired by Elk CK Crazy Horse 138P.

Showing the Grand Champion Balancer Female was Britney Volek, Highmore, S.D. BCFG RAVISHING RUBY 502T1 ET is an April 8, 2008 daughter of BUF BFCK Cherokee CNYN 4912.

The Reserve Grand Champion Balancer Female was RTRD ROXI 225U ET, a Feb. 12, 2008 daughter of BUF BFCK Cherokee CNYN 4912. David Rea, Berthoud, Colo. exhibited the female that was also named Grand Champion Bred and Owned Balancer Female.

Reserve Grand Champion Bred and Owned Balancer Female honors went to BNC MISS HOJER. Nikki Hojer, Lake Preston, S.D. exhibited the February 20, 2008 daughter of LJC LJC Mission Statement P2.
