Oklahoma wheat production forecast

The state's June 1, wheat production is forecast at 73.5 million bushels, down 9 percent from last month, and 56 percent below last year according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Oklahoma Field Office. Acres harvested for grain, at 3.5 million acres, are down 1 million acres from last year. Average yield is forecast at 21.0 bushels per acre, down 2 bushels from the previous forecast, and 16 bushels below 2008.

Winter wheat production in the United States is forecast at 1.49 billion bushels, down less than 1 percent from the May 1 forecast and 20 percent below 2008. Based on June 1 conditions, the U.S. yield is forecast at 43.9 bushels per acre, down 0.3 bushel from the previous forecast. Grain area totals 34.0 million acres, unchanged from May 1. Selected states, their winter wheat production and percent change from last year, include: Kansas, 340.0 million bushels, down 4 percent; Washington, 102.0 million bushels, up 6 percent; Texas, 64.8 million bushels, down 35 percent; and Colorado, 80.5 million bushels, up 41 percent.
