University of Nebraska Panhandle Wheat Plot Tours began June 16

University of Nebraska winter wheat plot tours began June 16 in the Panhandle will give producers an opportunity to learn more about new varieties, drought stress, wheat streak resistance, and other topics relevant to western Nebraska.

Plots are located in Morrill, Dawes, Deuel, Cheyenne, Box Butte, and Scotts Bluff counties, and just across the Wyoming line. For more information, contact the extension educator in the host county.

The schedule of tours:

On June 16 a tour was held in Morrill County, and on June 17 another tour was held in Dawes County.

June 22, 6 p.m.: Deuel County. Directions: From Highway 30 and Wheatland Dr. on the west edge of Chappell, turn north, go north 8.5 miles on Rd 165, west side of road.

June 23, 9 a.m.: High Plains Ag Lab. Directions: From Sidney, 6 miles north on U.S. 385 or from Gurley, 7 miles south on U.S. 385, 2.5 miles west at Huntsman elevator on Rd 32, 0.5 miles north on Rd 109, 1 mile east on Rd 32N. Cheyenne County--Dryland - Central east side of Field #13 Cheyenne County--Organic - Northwest corner of Field #3

June 23, 3 p.m.: Box Butte County Dryland. from Hemingford, take Highway 2 south about 5.5 miles to Hall Rd, west on Hall about 0.5 mile, south side of road (this is 0.2 west of Hall Rd and Rd 67)

June 23, 5 p.m.: Box Butte County Irrigated. 0.5 mile west of Hemingford on Highway 2, 0.25 mile north on Rd 71, west side

June 25, 10 a.m. : Scotts Bluff County. Highway 92 about 15 miles west of Gering to Stegall, take Stegall Rd 4 miles south to Co Rd P, 1.8 miles west on Co Rd P, north side of road (this is about 0.2 mile east of Wheatland School)

June 25, 2 p.m.: Albin, WY. from Albin, west 2.5 miles on Highway 216, then 2 miles south on Rd 159, then 0.3 mile west on Rd 227, then continue south 2 miles on Rd 159, then west 3 miles to Rd 156, turn north 0.7 mile. Plots are on the west edge of the north center pivot. Call Jerry Nachtman at 307-575-1731 or Jim Krall at 307-837-2000 for more information.

Other tour of interest: June 25. 4 p.m.: Pine Bluffs, WY. from Pine Bluffs, north 6 miles on Highway 215 or from Albin 11 miles south, west at Mattson farm sign, plots on east side of road south of grain cleaning building.
