Missouri governor to sign bill allowing tractor parades

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP)--Gov. Jay Nixon plans to sign legislation that would allow tractor parades to plow ahead.

Nixon was to sign the bill May 29 next to an antique John Deere tractor on the south lawn of the Capitol. The measure will take effect when it's signed. And that's just in time for a tractor parade scheduled May 31 about 50 miles south of the capital in Vichy.

Groups hold tractor parades to raise money. But under current law, farm tractors are only allowed on state highways when traveling between fields. The legislation would let the Missouri State Highway Patrol approve of tractor parades during daylight hours by licensed drivers.
