McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,390 head June 30, compared to 1,625 head last week and 1,210 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were steady to $2 higher. Good attendance of buyers and active trade. Cattle were in thin to medium flesh, few fleshy. Receipts included 44% heifers with 41% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 lower with weigh-ups a factor. Slaughter bulls were steady. There was a good attendance of buyers and active trade. A total of 390 cows and bulls sold with 50% to packers. A herd sellout of black cows and Brahman cows sold to good demand.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 26 head, 1300 to 2000 lbs., 60.50 to 64.00; high dressing, 67.50 to 69.00; low dressing, 55.50 to 59.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 4 years old, 825 to 1075 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, high quality Brahman, 1050.00; 2 to 6 years old, 1075 to 1200 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, high quality blacks, 810.00 to 910.00; 4 to 7 years old, 1075 to 1350 lbs., 3 to 7 months bred, average quality, 730.00 to 790.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 to 6 years old, 975 to 1125 lbs., with 275- to 350-lb. calves, high quality blacks, 1235.00; 4 years old, 1100 lbs., with 175-lb. calves, average blacks, 1035.00.
