More see value in joining ICAIowa Mounting issues like cap and trade, carbon footprints and combating the animal activists groups continue to be challenges for the beef cattle industry, not only in Iowa but nationally. With an increase in membership, the Iowa Cattlemen's Association has been re-energized and is more equipped to handle these issues. Those with a stake in the beef cattle industry are aware of the negative forces that impact their businesses and recognize the importance of Association membership. The strength ICA has shown in combating these adversaries has lead to stronger support of the Association. The 2009 ICA membership campaign recently came to a close and for the first time in five years, ICA's member numbers have increased to approximately 9,600 members. Cherokee County had an exceptional year, increasing their member numbers to 108; an increase of more that 183%. The county with the highest number of members was Clay County with 304. "ICA Directors and County Boards should be commended for all of their membership efforts," said cattle producer and ICA Membership Chair John Fluit Jr. "ICA truly is a grassroots organization." ICA is a partnership of 97 county affiliates with a primary focus on industry issues. County associations have an important role in dealing with industry issues as well as in promoting beef. Many county associations do multiple grillings each year in conjunction with community events.
