Hay trade slowIn Kansas, the hay trade is slow. Demand is moderate to strong for dairy and stock cow alfalfa, moderate for alfalfa pellets, grinding alfalfa and grass hay, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, July 14. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted. Southwest: Dairy/grinding alfalfa steady. Movement slow. Horse alfalfa, in small squares, $190-$250; dairy, 75-80 cents/point RFV, Supreme, $140-$150; premium/supreme, $130-$140, or $140-$155 delivered; premium, $120-$130; good, $120. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $95-$105, an instance $85 delivered in. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots and dairies, $115-$130, ground on truck, $110-$127. For the week ending July 4, 10,415 tons grinding alfalfa and 1,200 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Good oat hay, in small squares, $125 delivered, in large squares, $100 delivered. Good bermuda, in large squares, $125, in small squares, $210 delivered. Good PM6, in small squares, $150; fair, some weeds, $100-$110. Straw, in large bales, mostly $50-$55, little $60. South central: Dairy/grinding alfalfa and alfalfa pellets steady. Movement slow to moderate. Horse alfalfa, in medium squares, $195; dairy, 65-80 cents/point RFV, premium/supreme, $130-$150; premium, $110-$130; stock cow, in medium squares or large rounds, no test $90-$110. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $75-$90. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots, $100-$120. For the week ending July 4, 2,975 tons of grinding alfalfa and 1,252 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $155-$168; sun-cured, 17% %170; dehydrated, 15% $210 and 17% $208. Straw, in small squares, $3.50/bale, in medium squares, $55-$65. Southeast: Alfalfa, brome and prairie hay steady. Movement slow. Horse and goat alfalfa, in medium squares, $140-$200. Good dairy alfalfa, $127.50; stock cow, in medium squares, no test $110-$120; good bluestem, in small squares, $85-$100, mostly, $90-$95, in medium and large squares, $60-$85, mostly, $65-$80, in large rounds, $40-$60. Mulch, in large rounds, $45 to mostly, $50. Good brome, in small squares, $100-$110, in medium and large squares., $80-$90, new crop, $85-$90, in large rounds, $50-$75. Northwest: Dairy/grinding alfalfa steady. Movement slow. Horse alfalfa, in small squares, $200-$250. Dairy, no trade. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $85-$100; ground and delivered to feedlots and dairies, $120-$130, extra freight, $140 North central/northeast: Dairy/grinding alfalfa, prairie hay and brome steady. Movement slow. Horse alfalfa, in small squares, $220, in medium squares, $150; supreme dairy, $130-$150; premium, $120-$140; Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $60-$80, alfalfa ground on truck, $90-$100, ground and delivered, $100-$120. Good bluestem grass hay, in small squares, $90-$100, new crop contracted, $120 delivered, in medium squares, $70-$80, in large rounds, $45-$60.
