Hollis dairy closes, leaving 32 without jobsHOLLIS, Okla. (AP)--A dairy in far southwestern Oklahoma has closed after months of downsizing. Carl Bromlow, the general manager of the Harmon County Dairy, says its final day was July 2. He says downsizing had taken place during the past six to eight months, as the number of both employees and cattle were reduced. Bart Kirchoff, the secretary of the dairy, says that at full capacity, the dairy employed 32 people and had 2,600 cattle. The dairy had been in Hollis about seven years. Bromlow says the building will sit empty as its owners search for a buyer. He says the dairy lost its financing after milk prices collapsed and feed prices doubled. City Manager Bob Copeland says the town of about 2,300 will feel the loss of the dairy because of lost sales tax dollars and water revenue.
