New AgriLife Extension agent hired for Oldham CountyTexas The Texas AgriLife Extension Service has named Cory Whitaker as the new agricultural and natural resources agent in Oldham County, according to Dr. Galen Chandler, AgriLife Extension regional program director for agriculture and natural resources. "I am pleased to have Cory join the Texas AgriLife Extension Service team in the Panhandle District," Chandler said. "He comes to us with valuable production agriculture experience and a good knowledge of the 4-H program. His internship with the AgriLife Extension program in Cottle County will allow him to get off to a quick start with his new career." Whitaker, a native of Paducah, is a recent graduate of West Texas A&M University where he earned his bachelor's of science in agriculture education. Whitaker said he wanted to find a position where his agricultural background on the family cotton farm and in 4-H would be utilized. "I knew I wanted to be a county agent or an FFA advisor, and with 4-H, the kids choose to be there, so you know they want to be involved," he said. "I know Oldham County has a strong program already and good people to work with in all the programs, so hopefully I can help them keep that up," Whitaker said. While in college, Whitaker worked for Oklahoma and Texas Panhandle Compress Inc., and in the summer of 2007 he interned at the AgriLife Extension office in Cottle County. 1/5/09 Date: 12/30/08
