Grants available for farmers' markets

PIERRE, S.D. (AP)--The state Agriculture Department has grant money available for farmers' markets already in operation or for groups that want to start one.

Each dollar contributed by the applicant will be matched by the Agriculture Department, up to $1,000.

The federal money can be used for startup costs, promotion, marketing, vendor recruitment, consumer education and other purposes.

There's a March 15 deadline to apply.
