Colorado wine industry's 2008 Restaurant Program announced

Colorado

The Colorado Wine Industry Development Board is holding another restaurant recognition program this year to acknowledge the restaurants that are making a special effort to bring Colorado wines to consumers.

They will be awarding the restaurant with the best Colorado wine list (by the glass or by the bottle,) as well as the restaurant that has the best Colorado food and wine pairing; as judged by Rocky Mountain News food writer John Lehndorff, and Colorado Wine Industry Development Board executive director Doug Caskey. The winners in each category will receive a $1,000 cash award.

Rules and regulations for participation in this program are available at www.coloradowine.com. The deadline to submit an entry is Jan. 9.

The winners will be announced at the Restaurant Program Awards Reception on Feb. 2 at 6 p.m., at The Avenue Grill.

"We're seeing a substantial increase in the number of restaurants carrying Colorado wines on their wine lists this year," said Caskey. "A large part of that is due to the Denver Independent Network of Restaurants' support--the huge wine tasting we held in May, where many Denver restaurants sampled Colorado wine, and met our winemakers--and their Harvest Week in September. We're expecting the competition to be stiff this year."
