Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., Jan. 20, reported receipts of 665 head of sheep and goats, compared to 224 head last week and 433 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, receipts were too few for an accurate comparison, however, a lower undertone was noted on slaughter lambs. Slaughter ewes and feeder lambs sold with a steady undertone noted. Receipts included about 33% slaughter lambs, 25% slaughter ewes, 37% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks, bred ewes and miscellaneous sheep. Buyer attendance was good with moderate to good demand.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 121 to 128 lbs., 92.00 to 92.25 (92.16); 131 to 140 lbs., 90.25 to 93.00 (91.56); 151 to 166 lbs., 90.00 to 91.25 (90.73. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 7 head, 174 lbs., 85.50.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 135 to 158 lbs., 30.00 to 36.50 (34.71); 164 to 174 lbs., 33.00 to 37.00 (34.64). Good 2 to 4, fleshy, 17 head, 171 to 194 lbs., 33.00 to 34.00 (33.56); 5 head, 184 lbs., 40.00 gaunt; 9 head, 228 to 243 lbs., 32.00 to 34.00 (32.89). Utility 1 to 2, Medium fleshed, 130 to 159 lbs., 16.00 to 21.00 (19.25). Cull 1, thin, 7 head, 115 to 117 lbs., 5.00 to 7.00 (5.87).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 17 head, 58 to 59 lbs., 110.00 to 115.00 (112.96); 5 head, 65 lbs., 105.00; 59 head, 77 lbs., 113.00; 85 to 89 lbs., 102.00 to 103.50 (102.79); 24 head, 102 lbs., 90.00; 116 to 117 lbs., 91.75 to 94.75 (92.79). Medium and large frame 2, 12 head, 83 lbs., 90.00; 5 head, 108 lbs., 81.00. Small frame 1 to 2, 6 head, 67 lbs., 88.00; 14 head, 78 lbs., 87.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 11 head, 59 lbs., 111.00; 5 head, 72 lbs., 102.00. Selection 1 to 2, 5 head, 39 lbs., 86.00.

Slaughter yearlings: Selection 1 to 2, 11 head, 73 lbs., 65.50.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1, 15 head, 97 to 103 lbs., 55.00 to 55.50 (55.33). Selection 2, 7 head, 87 lbs., 25.00.

Bred ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, whiteface, lamb early March, 18 head, 187 lbs., 4 to 6 years old 33.00.
