Russians to view Montana beef genetics industry

HELENA, Mont. (AP)--Three livestock industry leaders from Russia will visit Montana cattle ranches and meet with cattle industry members in mid-January.

Accompanied by a Russian reporter and a translator, they will attend the National Western Stock Show in Denver and arrive in Bozeman on Jan. 20.

The Montana Department of Agriculture is hosting the delegation.

Cattle herds in Russia have been undergoing a change from primarily dairy breeds to more meat-specific livestock breeds. The director of Montana's Department of Agriculture, Ron de Yong, says Russian cattle producers are looking for a consistent, quality source of beef genetics.

Among the stops the visiting delegates will make are the Sitz Angus Ranch at Harrison, ORIgen genetic services at Billings, Stevensons Ranch at Hobson, and Holden Herefords at Valier.
