North Arkansas livestock sales report

The North Arkansas Livestock, Green Forest, Ark., reported receipts of 1,750 head Jan. 21, compared to 1,584 head last week and 1,432 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. Feeder steers and bulls were mixed, mostly steady to $3 lower except 450 to 600 pound steers were $1 to $4 higher. Feeder heifers under 550 pounds mixed, generally steady to $1 higher, over 550 pounds were steady to $3 lower. The supply included about 1,054 feeders, 519 yearlings, 70 replacement cows, 92 slaughter cows, 12 slaughter bulls, and 3 replacement bulls. The feeder supply included 50% steers, 44% heifers, and 6% bulls, with nearly 33% of the run over 600 pounds. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 42.00; high dressing, 45.00 to 52.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 40.00 to 44.50; high dressing, 45.00 to 51.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 37.00 to 42.00; high dressing, 43.00 to 47.00; low dressing, 27.00 to 35.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 30.00 to 35.00; low dressing, 15.00 to 27.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 50.00 to 57.50; high dressing, 57.50 to 61.00; low dressing, 47.50.
