Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 2,369 head Jan. 15, compared to 1,592 head last week and 1,058 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week's sale, feeder lambs weighing under 80 pounds sold steady and lambs over 80 pounds sold $4 to $5 higher. Slaughter ewes sold mostly $2 to $3 lower. Buyer attendance good with moderate demand. The supply consisted of approximately 5% slaughter ewes and bucks, 95% feeder lambs.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, Fleshy, 85 head, 155 lbs., 29.75. Utility 1 to 2, Medium fleshed, 21 head, 139 lbs., 22.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 62 to 68 lbs., 121.00; 169 head, 79 lbs., 117.00 to 118.75 (118.48); 84 to 87 lbs., 118.25 to 119.75 (119.17); 212 head, 97 lbs., 110.50; 105 to 109 lbs., 103.00 to 107.00 (106.63). Medium and large frame 2, 26 head, 53 lbs., 108.00.
