McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,100 head Jan. 20, compared to 2,200 head last week and 700 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker and feeder steers were steady to $3 higher. Stocker and feeder heifers were steady to $3 lower. There was a good attendance of buyers and active trade. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition. Receipts consisted of 50% steers, 43% heifers with 22% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were $1 to $4 higher in active trade. There was a good attendance of buyers. Active trade was noted on replacement cows going back to pastures. A total of 300 cattle sold at the evening cow sale with 55% to packers.
