Markey named to agriculture committee

Colorado

Jan. 14 Congresswoman Betsy Markey was named to the House Committee on Agriculture for the 111th Congress. The committee oversees issues as varied as renewable energy, rural development, disaster assistance, nutrition, crop insurance, conservation, international trade, futures market regulation, animal and plant health, agricultural research and development, bioterrorism, forestry and many others.

This is a key appointment for Rep. Markey, who represents much of rural Northern and Eastern Colorado.

"I am honored to have earned a seat on the Agriculture Committee," said Markey. "As we set farm policy for the nation, I will be a strong advocate for rural communities and rural economies. I am committed to serving Colorado's farmers and ranchers and to keeping America's agricultural heritage strong."
