Lexington cattle sales report

The Lexington Livestock Market, Lexington, Neb., reported receipts of 2,500 head Jan. 16, compared to 3,000 head last week and 2,100 head last year, according to the USDA-Nebraska Department of Agriculture Market News, Kearney, Neb.

Compared to last week, steers less than 550 pounds were $4 higher with instances of as much as $12 higher. Steers over 600 pounds trended $1 to $3 lower, however steers 700 to 750 pounds were $9 lower. Heifers under 600 pounds trended $7 to $9 higher with instances of $12 to $15 higher, while heifers 600 pounds and heavier were mostly steady to $2 to $4 lower. Demand and trade activity was moderate to very good. Total receipts consisted of 67% steers and 33% heifers, with 57% of the total offerings weighing over 600 pounds.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 429 to 447 lbs., 115.00 to 123.00 (116.76); 546 to 547 lbs., 110.00 to 112.00 (111.35); 6 head, 776 lbs., 92.00 calves; 7 head, 814 lbs., 90.00.
