Kansas Soybean Association plans to build new headquartersBy Doug Rich
A proposed new headquarters for the Kansas Soybean Association (KSA) and the Kansas Soybean Commission (KSC) was unveiled at the Kansas Soybean Expo, Jan. 7, in Topeka, Kan. Ron Ohlde, KSC chairman, said KSA and KSC have outgrown their current facility located at 2930 SW Wanamaker Dr., and are planning to build a new facility. Ohlde said the process to find a new rental property or building site for a new facility began nearly two and a half years ago. After no suitable rental property was found, the board of directors began looking into the possibility of new construction. One and a half years ago, a joint building committee, made up of three members of the Kansas Soybean Association and the members of the Kansas Soybean Commission, was formed. The committee located a building site on 10th Street in northwest Topeka and has begun talking to architects. An architectural drawing of the proposed building was on display at the Kansas Soybean Expo. Ohlde said they are still in negotiations with the architect and have not determined the final cost of construction. He said they would like to start construction in May and have the facility completed and ready to move into by January 2010.
