Jan. 30 deadline approaches for Rangeland Carbon Credits sign-up

The deadline for enrollment in the current Rangeland Carbon Credit pool is Jan. 30, according to AgraGate Climate Credits Corporation.

Qualifying ranchers who enroll by this date also may be eligible to earn retroactive credits as far back as 2003. Retroactive credits will not be allowed after this deadline. Rangeland in 11 states is eligible: Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming.

"The emerging carbon credits market is a new revenue opportunity for ranchers who commit to sustainable rangeland management practices," says Lowell Mesman, AgraGate Rangeland Specialist. "And for ranchers who qualify, this is the final opportunity to enroll in the carbon credit program and earn retroactive credits for your sustainable rangeland management practices."

To qualify for the retroactive carbon credits for past years, ranchers must have had a rangeland management plan and be able to provide historical turn-in/turn-in and stocking rate records for those years. Ranchers who do not currently have a rangeland management plan can create one now and earn carbon credits for the 2008 vintage.

AgraGate is the leading aggregator of agricultural carbon credits. On behalf of farmers, ranchers and private forest owners, the company has enrolled more than five million carbon credits in 26 states under the Chicago Climate Exchange.

Additional information on the rangeland enrollment deadline and the carbon credit market is available from Mesman at 605-280-1319; by contacting AgraGate toll-free at 866-633-6758, or by visiting www.agragate.com.
