Ft. Smith livestock sales reportThe Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 763 head Jan. 19, compared to 1,234 head last week and 739 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark. Compared to last year, slaughter cows were $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were $4 higher. Feeder steers were uneven, mostly $1 to $4 higher. Feeder heifers were steady to $4 higher. The supply included 400 feeder calves, 240 feeder yearlings, 52 replacement cows, 63 slaughter cows, 8 slaughter bulls, and 1 replacement bull. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 39.00 to 43.50; high dressing, 44.00 to 48.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 34.00 to 39.50; high dressing, 40.00 to 45.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 42.00 to 46.50; high dressing, 47.00 to 51.00; low dressing, 37.00 to 41.50. Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 50.00 to 52.00; high dressing, 53.00 to 58.00.
