Faith livestock cattle auction report

The Faith Livestock Commission Co., Faith, S.D., reported receipts of 2,687 head Jan. 19, compared to 1,560 head two weeks ago and 2,722 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to the most recent feeder sale two weeks ago, steer calves sold unevenly steady, with heifers trading mostly $2 to $3 higher. Buyer attendance was good with good demand and active trade. Slaughter cows sold steady to weak when compared to two weeks ago. The cattle supply consisted of approximately 14% slaughter cows and bulls, 10% replacement cattle, and 76% feeder cattle. The feeder cattle supply included 71% steers, 29% heifers, with 80% weighing over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 7 head, 399 lbs., 117.00; 497 to 498 lbs., 114.00 to 116.00 (114.93); 501 to 518 lbs., 114.00 to 116.50 (115.85); 558 to 597 lbs., 111.00 to 113.00 (112.43); 608 to 621 lbs., 107.00 to 110.75 (109.52) calves; 653 to 670 lbs., 102.00 to 103.75 (102.24) calves; 26 head, 698 lbs., 95.00 full; 704 to 749 lbs., 95.85 to 101.00 (98.23) calves; 752 to 789 lbs., 94.50 to 96.35 (95.66) calves; 71 head, 837 lbs., 91.60 calves; 7 head, 883 lbs., 90.00 calves; 6 head, 912 lbs., 90.25. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 16 head, 501 to 542 lbs., 107.50 to 110.50 (108.86); 13 head, 596 lbs., 106.75; 600 to 648 lbs., 102.00 to 105.00 (103.25) calves; 20 head, 692 lbs., 93.75 calves; 20 head, 743 lbs., 92.00 calves.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 472 to 475 lbs., 106.00 to 108.75 (107.46); 20 head, 524 lbs., 101.50; 560 to 594 lbs., 94.25 to 101.75 (97.56); 600 to 643 lbs., 92.25 to 99.00 (96.38) calves; 657 to 682 lbs., 89.50 to 92.50 (91.63) calves; 703 to 734 lbs., 84.50 to 85.50 (85.21) calves; 67 head, 766 lbs., 86.60 calves. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 7 head, 428 lbs., 103.25; 9 head, 581 lbs., 90.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1377 to 2000 lbs., 41.50 to 42.75; low dressing, 38.50 to 40.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1140 to 1515 lbs., 41.00 to 43.50; high dressing, 45.00 to 48.00; low dressing, 36.75 to 39.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 995 to 1410 lbs., 37.25 to 42.50; high dressing, 43.00 to 46.00; low dressing, 33.25 to 37.25; Back feed, 965 to 1118 lbs., 49.50 to 56.00.

Heiferettes: 908 to 1119 lbs., 61.00 to 65.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1445 to 1995 lbs., 52.50 to 56.75; low dressing, 49.50 to 50.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 4 years old, 1195 to 1295 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, 1050.00 to 1100.00; 4 to 5 years old, 1080 to 1335 lbs., 7 to 8 months bred, 760.00 to 960.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1255 to 1360 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, 760.00 to 975.00; 8+ years old, 1345 to 1365 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, 690.00 to 810.00; broken mouth, 1260 to 1495 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, 575.00 to 640.00
