Amarillo livestock salesThe Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,065 head Jan. 20, compared to 959 head last week and 929 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to the last sale, feeder steers were $2 to $4 lower, except 600- to 700-pound steers calves were steady to $2 lower. Feeder heifers were mostly steady. Slaughter cows and bulls were $1 to $2 higher. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate to good. Slaughter cows made up 5% of the offering, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows 2% and feeders 92%. The feeder supply included 67% steers and bulls and 33% heifers, with nearly 77% of the run over 600 pounds.
