Amarillo livestock sales

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,065 head Jan. 20, compared to 959 head last week and 929 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to the last sale, feeder steers were $2 to $4 lower, except 600- to 700-pound steers calves were steady to $2 lower. Feeder heifers were mostly steady. Slaughter cows and bulls were $1 to $2 higher. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate to good. Slaughter cows made up 5% of the offering, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows 2% and feeders 92%. The feeder supply included 67% steers and bulls and 33% heifers, with nearly 77% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few small packages 400 to 475 lbs., 103.00 to 115.00; few 500 to 575 lbs., 93.00 to 98.00; 600 to 675 lb. calves mostly 92.00 to 98.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 90.00 to 90.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 90.00 to 91.75, package 883 lbs., 87.50; package 948 lbs., 84.50; small lot 1080 lbs., 74.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 400 to 500 lbs., 97.00 to 98.00; package 626 lbs., 87.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, small lot 357 lbs., 87.00; small lot 636 lbs., 76.50; few 750 to 800 lbs., 84.00 to 84.50.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 91.00 to 99.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 78.00 to 81.00; 600 to 700 lbs., mostly 73.00 to 77.00; lot 785 lbs., 71.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 92.00 to 98.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 90.00 to 94.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 82.00 to 85.00; 600 to 700 lb. calves 85.50 to 87.50; lot 735 lbs., 85.50, package 761 lbs., 81.5; package 826 lbs., 82.00, fleshy 870 to 880 lbs., 74.00 to 77.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 77.00 to 81.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 75.00 to 82.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 78.00 to 81.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 77.50 to 80.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, package 615 lbs., 77.00.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 40.00 to 44.50; high dressing, 45.00; low dressing, 39.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 40.50 to 43.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1760 lbs., 61.50; low yielding, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 49.00 to 53.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 700.00 to 850.00 per head; aged, 1100 lbs., 5 months bred, 550.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 900 to 1050 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves at side, 600.00 to 770.00 per pair.
