Colorado Young Farmers to meet


The 40th Colorado Young Farmers Educational Association Institute will be held Feb. 6 and 7 at the Red Lion Hotel at 4040 Quebec Street in Denver, Colo.

More than 175 members, spouses, advisors and guests are expected to attend. The members of the Fort Morgan Young Farmer Chapter are hosts for the special anniversary celebration. All past state officers have been invited to attend.

The state officers coordinating the Institute activities include: President Greg Wright, Brighton, Front Range Chapter; Northeastern Vice President Don Wright, Ft. Lupton, Front Range Chapter; Southeastern Vice President Dan Ross, Yuma, Yuma Chapter; Western Vice President Kyle Hagerty, Hillrose, Brush Chapter; Treasurer Kevin Hansen, Brush, Brush Chapter; Reporter Maureen Whittington, Fleming, Northeastern Junior College Chapter; and Immediate Past President Lynn Wright, Brighton, Front Range Chapter.

The delegates representing their respective chapter will elect the officers for the 2009-2010 year and conduct business pertaining to the Association.

The Feb. 6 educational workshop entitled, "Making a Positive Impact" will be presented by Richard Fagerlin from Fort Collins. The Feb. 6 luncheon entertainment will be, "Storyteller Don Smith" from Yuma.

The Feb. 6 afternoon Interactive Trade Show will be coordinated by members of the Fort Morgan Chapter. It will be followed by the "Anniversary Evening at Red Rocks." It will include food, a special "40 Years In Review" presentation and entertainment by "Comedy Hypnotist Daniel James."

The 2009 Colorado Spokesperson for Agriculture contest will be held in the morning on Feb. 7. The winner will represent Colorado in the National Contest in December 2009 in Montgomery, Ala.

The Feb. 7 afternoon program will include a Men's Workshop panel entitled, "Can You Still Hold Your Water?" moderated by Don Ament former Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture and Water Consultant. The women's program will be a "Pampered Chef Party."

The Feb. 7 evening Awards Banquet will include the announcement of the following award recipients: Honorary Member, Outstanding Chapter Community Service Award, Outstanding Winner and Runner-Up Chapter, Outstanding Advisor, Outstanding Agri-Business Award, Outstanding Agri-Service Award, and Outstanding Regional Young Farmers. The Case IH scholarship tractor auction will also be a highlight of the activities.

The evening will conclude with a special anniversary presentation by Kevin Ochsner, former Colorado FFA president and National FFA officer from Kersey.

The 2009-2010 newly elected officers will be installed to conclude the banquet activities.
