Senator Roberts continues service to Kansas on key committees
Leadership on agriculture, finance, HELP, ethics; adds Rules Committee to duties
U.S. Senator Pat Roberts will continue to provide leadership for Kansas on key committees in the U.S. Senate continuing his work on agriculture, healthcare and the economy. Roberts' committee assignments for the 111th Congress include: the Committee on Agriculture Nutrition and Forestry, the Committee on Finance, the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions , and the Select Committee on Ethics.
Senator Roberts is also privileged to be named a new member of the Rules Committee, expanding his duties to include oversight on general operations of the U.S. Senate, federal elections and Inaugurations. This committee post works hand in hand with Senator Roberts' service on the Ethics Committee. Roberts was a member of the U.S. House Administration Committee when he was a congressman from the Kansas Big First District.
Continuing his seniority on the Senate Agriculture Committee, Roberts will work to protect the programs that provide a vital safety net for Kansas farmers and ranchers like crop insurance and direct payments and programs that promote rural development and growth in our communities.
For his second Congress on the Finance Committee, Roberts continues work on preserving critical tax relief that has lowered the tax burden for Kansas families and small businesses. He will continue to push for increased oversight and accountability of the Troubled Assets Relief Program and other efforts to improve the economy. The Finance Committee recently considered the nomination of Timothy Geithner to be the Secretary of the Treasury, a key figure in the nation's economic recovery.
Roberts will be a strong advocate for Kansas to protect the interests of rural states as debate begins in the Finance Committee on the restructuring of the Highway Trust Fund and federal fuel taxes.
Senator Roberts will also continue to work on general aviation issues still pending before the Senate including reauthorization of Federal Aviation Administration and Airport and Airways Trust Fund.
As a member of both the Finance Committee, which has jurisdiction on Medicare, and a member of the HELP Committee, Roberts' will call for improvements to Medicare before debate on major reform of the nation's health care system. Roberts will continue his work to ensure health care providers receive adequate Medicare reimbursement for their services and that the program continues to provide patients with access to their choice of quality health care. As Co-Chairman of the Senate Rural Health Caucus, Roberts will work to ensure rural Americans also have access to the same quality care as urban areas.
