MFBF president makes statement regarding failure of HB 253Montana Montana Farm Bureau Federation President Bob Hanson is pleased with the recent decision on House Bill 253, the Wild Bison Recovery and Conservation Act, which failed in committee by a vote of 10 to 8. "In not passing this bill, the House Fish, Wildlife and Parks Committee has allowed Montana to take a step closer to re-gaining its brucellosis class free status and cattle producers all over the state will be happy about that," said Hanson. HB 253 would have transferred the management of bison and associated programs from the Department of Livestock to management under Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. Hanson expressed earlier concerns about this bill including fiscal responsibilities, disease control and future management plans regarding bison. Hanson went on to say that he'd "like to thank everyone on the committee who supported Montana Farm Bureau and livestock producers statewide by not passing HB 253." The Montana Farm Bureau is the state's largest agriculture organization representing over 13,700 member families. Farm Bureau is the voice of agricultural producers at all levels.
