The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service will be publishing county level acreage, yield, and production estimates for last year's corn and soybean crops on March 2. This information, like all NASS reports, is only possible thanks to the cooperation of farmers who take the time to provide data for their farm.
"The county level data are critical to the administration of the crop insurance program by the USDA Risk Management Agency and to determine county loan rates for the marketing loan program by USDA's Farm Service Agency", said Greg Thessen, Director of the NASS Iowa Field Office. "This information is used not just by USDA, but also by farmers and landowners to settle rental agreements and by all those who serve farmers and rural communities including agribusinesses, lenders, trade associations, and many others."
These estimates and other reports from NASS can be found online at www.nass.usda.gov.
