Workshop to focus on sustainable blackberry production
Oklahomans who want to learn the basics of sustainable blackberry production should make plans to attend an informative workshop sponsored by Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension and the North American Bramble Growers Research Foundation.
Slated April 8, the workshop will feature a lecture, discussion and field visit format, said Eric Stafne, fruit and nut crop specialist with OSU's Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
"This will be a very informative workshop where participants will gain information regarding cultivar selection, site selection, irrigation design and installation, fertilizer application, weed control and pest control, as well as take a tour of the Cimarron Valley Research Station located near Perkins," Stafne said.

In addition to learning the basics of blackberry production, participants also will learn about the health-based properties of blackberries and how to use that information as a marketing tool.
"We're very excited to offer this workshop for the first time. We have a number of industry professionals and specialists from OSU who will be on hand to share their expertise," Stafne said. "Participants will go home with a wealth of information about the blackberry industry."
