Career Day space limited; register now

Nebraska

A day of career exploration for ninth graders on March 25, in the Lifelong Learning Center at North Platte Community College is limited to 100 participants, said a University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension Educator.

"Connecting the Dots: A Career Exploration Day" will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m., said Shane Potter, Extension Educator focusing on 4-H and Youth programs. Students will be able to make connections between desired careers and actions they take all the way through high school into the workplace.

Participants will experience a simulation to learn how their current choices impact their post secondary study and their workplace experience, Potter said. They will learn more about their favorite careers and about the importance of networking as they begin to prepare for the work world. They will complete personality inventories that relate to job possibilities and build work readiness skills like building résumés and interviewing.

This workshop is available to ninth graders throughout the 20 counties of the West Central District, which extends from Buffalo County on the east to Keith County on the west to Custer on the north. The Kansas forms the southern district border.

Registrations are due by Feb. 27, Potter said, but he encouraged anyone interested in attending to sign up now because spaces are limited. To register or get more information, contact Potter at 308-696-6708 or spotter3@unl.edu.

The cost of this event, including lunch, is covered by Nebraska Machinery Company. NMC and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension are co-sponsors.
