Wheat seed to take center stage at meeting Feb. 24

Oklahoma

AgriPro Wheat will co-sponsor a meeting for farmers, seedsmen, educators and researchers entitled "Moving the Wheat Seed Industry Forward," Feb. 24, at the Express Event Center in Oklahoma City. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided (catered by Klein's Catering) and the Oklahoma Wheat Commission will furnish cinnamon rolls.

Speakers will include Daryl Strouts, executive director of the Kansas Crop Improvement Association; Mark Hodges, executive director of Plains Grains; Dr. Brett Carver, Oklahoma State University wheat breeder; Dr. Frank Gilstrap, center director, Texas AgriLife; Dr. John Moffatt, AgriPro wheat breeder; Jeff Krehbiel, wheat producer, Hydro, Okla.; and Dr. Allan Fritz, Kansas State University wheat breeder.

Agenda:

9:30 a.m., registration--coffee and cinnamon rolls, compliments of Oklahoma Wheat Commission.

10 a.m., What is a Dynamic Seed Industry? Dr. John Moffatt, wheat breeder, AgriPro.

10:30 a.m., Certified Seed....Can You Afford It? Daryl Strouts, executive director, KWA.

11 a.m., Who Needs Quality? Give Me Yield! Mark Hodges, executive director, Plains Grains, Inc.

11:30 a.m., OK Rising and White Wheat in Oklahoma Dr. Brett Carver, wheat breeder, OSU.

Noon, lunch and greetings, Terry Peach, Commissioner, Oklahoma Department of Agriculture.

1 p.m., Partnerships...What's the Point? Dr. Frank Gilstrap, center director, Dallas, TAMU.

1:30 p.m., Where Will New Wheat Varieties Come From? Dr. Allan Fritz, wheat breeder, KSU.

2:30 p.m., Agricultural Stewardship of New Technologies Jeff Krehbiel, wheat producer, Hydro, Okla.
