Texas breeder re-electetd to National Simmenal BoardTexas Mike Mallett, Lampasas, Texas, has been re-elected to a three-year term on the 16-member Board of Trustees of the American Simmental Association. Mallett was also elected to serve on ASA's five-member Executive Committee. Mallett owns Mallett Simmentals, an operation of 115 registered females; he annually consigns to performance tests in Texas, Oklahoma and Montana for purposes of evaluating his herd. A 1972 graduate of Tarleton State University, Mallett served 32 years as a county extension agent before retiring in 2004. He is deeply involved in Texas Simmental/Simbrah activities, as well as being actively involved in his church and community. Mike and his wife, Connie, are the parents of two married daughters and have four grandchildren. Mallett was formally seated at ASA's 41st Annual Meeting held Jan. 31, in Fort Worth, Texas. Also seated were re-elected incumbents, Bill McDonald, Blacksburg, Va.; John Harker, Hope, Ind.; Gregg Bailey, Mt. Vernon, Mo.; and two newly elected members, Jim Butcher, Lewistown, Mont., and Roger Finke, Berthold, N.D. The American Simmental Association is headquartered in Bozeman, Mont., and maintains the breed registries for the Simmental and Simbrah breeds of cattle. ASA has an active adult and junior membership of nearly 8,000.
