OSU Extension offers free "lawn maintenance" seminarOklahoma Homeowners who want to learn more about maintaining healthy and lush lawns are invited to attend a "Lawn Maintenance" seminar offered by the Oklahoma County OSU Extension Center Feb. 11, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. "Probably nothing makes more of a difference in landscape than a beautiful lawn," commented Ray Ridlen, Horticulture educator for the OSU Extension Center. "This class will give residents the skills and know-how they need to establish and care for a lush, weed-free, green lawn." The seminar, offered free to the public, will focus on lawn care and fertility. "We encourage anyone who wants to improve his or her lawn to start with getting a soil sample, so one of the things we do in this seminar is to explain how this is done," Ridlen explained. "A sample can tell us the nutrient levels in soil and how much, if any, nutrients need to be added, and help you with weed prevention." The seminar will also help participants understand which lawn varieties will work best in certain landscapes and how to care for each variety. "It's also important to know what kind of grasses do well in different types of areas," Ridlen said. "In Oklahoma, we always have to consider the climate, the soil and the actual location of the planting before we can make recommendations."
