Salers parade champions at NAILE

Salers breeders from 12 states paraded their best genetics at the Annual North American International Livestock Exposition, Nov. 20 in Louisville, Ky. The Open Salers and Optimizer Shows were judged by Pearl Walthall and Greg Walthall of Windsor, Mo. Judge Pearl Walthall commented that "Exhibitors should be extremely proud of the line-up of an outstanding set of Salers females." Greg Walthall recommended that all breeders should look at the stout set of Salers bulls on display. "We have been in Louisville all week long and have had the opportunity to see many breeds. The Salers breed could be the best line-up! You are doing something really right when you can have yearling bulls of this quality."

In the Optimizer Heifer Show GGT P Blk Knockout 383U, a February 2008 heifer sired by GGT P Blk Heavy Hitter, owned by GG&T Land & Cattle Co, Quinter, Kan., and Lucky D Cattle Co, El Paso, Texas, won the Grand Champion Optimizer Heifer. Taking home Reserve Grand Champion Optimizer Heifer was H&S Miss UT--OH, A May 2008 heifer sired by H&S Mac, owned by Mason Love, Baltimore, Ohio.

Next up was the Optimizer Bull Show where Harris Farms, Juliet, Tenn., took Grand Champion Optimizer Bull with HH Urban Cowboy 898U, a December 2008 bull sired by HUBB Pld Cowboy 21N. Reserve Champion went to ETC New Design 169W, a February 2009 bull sired by GGT P Blk Banshee 154N, owned by Triple C Farms, Jamestown, Tenn.

The judge awarded Grand Champion Salers Female to 3D Ebony Velvet, earlier named Junior Champion Heifer, born March 11, 2008, sired by 3D Pld Blk Power On and owned by Breanna Duncan, Marlow, Okla. Reserve Champion Salers Female went to GGT P Blk Sequoa 484, earlier named JuniorHeifer Calf Champion, born January 2009, sired by GGT P Blk Heavy Hitter, and owned by Triple C Farms, Jamestown, TN and GG&T Land & Cattle Co, Quinter, Kan.

Salers Heifer Division Champions:

Spring Heifer Calf Champion was H&S Wittle Baby, an April 2009, daughter of H&S Mac, owned by H&S Farms, Baltimore, Ohio. Reserve Spring Heifer Calf Champion was presented to ZBR Ms Emerald Doll 038W, born March 13, 2009, a daughter of MAC Lennox 314L, owned by THAT Farm, Camp, Ark., and Z7 Bar Ranch, Pawhuska, Okla.

Reserve Junior Heifer Calf Champion went to JCGC Whisper 930W, born February 2009, sired by HUBB Pld Cowboy 21N and owned by Jo C. G. Colmore, Rising Fawn, Ga.

H&S Miss Uni, born September 2008, daughter of H&S Recharge, owned by H&S Farms, Baltimore, Ohio, was the Senior Heifer Calf Champion while Reserve Senior Heifer Calf Champion was a Jo C. G. Colmore calf, JCGC U'Lovely 863U, born October 2008 and sired by HUBB Pld Cowboy 21N.

Yearling Heifer Reserve Grand Champion was H&S Miss Ursula, a March 2008 heifer, sired by H&S Mac, owned by Meagan Maze, Goreville, Ill.

Closing out the heifer division was the Senior Champion Heifer H&S Miss Toots, born October 2007, the daughter of H&S Mac, owned by Mason Love, Baltimore, Oh. JCGC Utterly Gorgeous, a February 2008 daughter of HUBB Pld Dakota 41K, owned by Andrew L. Crawford, Camp, Ark., was the Reserve Senior Champion.

¬ Grand Champion Cow-Calf Pair was awarded to H&S Miss Tootsie, a March 2007 born daughter of H&S Mac, also owned by H&S Farms, Baltimore, Ohio.

Salers Bull Division Champions:

In the bull show Division Champions and Reserve Champions were paraded through the ring to find out who would become the Grand Champion Salers Bull. Grand Champion Salers Bull went to GGT P Blk Backlash 170U, earlier named Junior Champion Bull, a January 2008 bull, co-owned by GG&T Cattle Co., Elm Creek Ranch, Hebron, N.D., and Rust Mountain View Ranch, Turtle Lake, N.D., and sired by AP Polled Genesis. Reserve Champion Salers Bull went to 3D Rhino, earlier named Reserve Junior Champion Bull, a January 2009 bull sired by 3D Icon, owned by Breanna Duncan, Marlow, Okla.

The Spring Bull Calf Champion was WF Top Shelf W3, born March 2009, sired by NJF Top Level 41T and owned by Willis Farms, Frankfort, Ky. Reserve Champion went to Mr McGee, born March 2009, sired by DCS Blk Pld Rainier 511R and owned by Multi R Ranch, Lewisburg, W.Va.

Reserve Junior Bull Calf Champion was a LARU Pld Blk Granite 719 offspring, THAT Pld Blk Cambell 40U, born February 2009, and owned by THAT Farm, Camp, Ark.

The Senior Bull Calf Champion was JCGC Unanimous 815U, a September 2008 bull sired by JCGC Pld Satchamo 656S, owned by Colmore Farms. This was a single entry.

Grand Champion Junior Get-of-Sire, H&S Farms, H&S MAC.

Reserve Champion Get-of-Sire, Harris Farms, HUBB Pld Cowboy 21N.

Grand Champion Get-of-Sire, Breanna Duncan, 3D Power On.
