New rules at the 2010 National Western Stock Show

The National Western Stock Show runs Jan. 9 to 24, featuring 42 ticketed events in 2010, including 23 action-packed PRCA rodeos and three thrill-a-minute PBR Denver Chute-Outs.

The World's Most Useful Livestock Show continues into its 103rd edition with 20 cattle breed shows. But what is likely to be the most important development at the show will occur through the Junior Market Show.

"We are industry leaders in animal testing with new policies in place for the 2010 National Western Junior Market Auction of Champions," said Patrick Grant, NWSS president and CEO. "Every single junior market sale animal will be drug tested and non-sale junior market animals will be randomly drug tested."

Under these new rules the National Western reserves the right to question the alteration of any animal's physical or physiological structure. As a condition of participation in the National Western Stock Show, the participant agrees to submit to the Stock Show, at their discretion, any animal so entered for immediate testing. Tests may include, but not be limited to blood, tissue and urine.

The participant further agrees that the conclusions reached by the Stock Show shall be final, without recourse against the Stock Show. A participant exhibiting any animal producing an analysis with a prohibited substance, sabotage, tampering, unethical fitting or inhumane practices may be barred from future competition at the National Western Stock Show.

In terms of new events, performer Mario Contreras joins An Evening of Dancing Horses for two performances, Jan. 20 and 21. Contreras brings his extraordinary talent and horsemanship skills from the Dallas Castle of Medieval Times to the Events Center.

Skilled in training horses of many breeds, ages, and sexes, Contreras is one of the premier trainers in the Midwest for in-hand under saddle equine performance. Schooled in classical methods, descending from generations of family prided in the art of training horses, Contreras has carried on the tradition.

From Doma Vaqura to the dressage competition arena, to airs above the ground, attendees will experience many riding disciplines and forms of training horses shaped Contreras's stylized training methods.

Meanwhile Stock Show personnel have added some new capital improvements including new concrete in the Event Center's barn and asphalt behind the National Western Club.
