From the President and CEO

Dear Friends:

As we approach the kickoff of the 104th National Western Stock Show, we could not be more thrilled about this year's exciting, entertaining and educational event. Our vision for National Western to be the world's premier center for America's western heritage has not changed since our inception more than a century ago.

Following this tradition, 2010 will include the Second Annual Western Heritage Week in the Yards; 42 ticketed events, including great rodeos; Ag Adventure At Children's Ranchland; Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale, featuring the western vistas of artist G. Russell Case; our world renowned livestock and horse shows and sales; the largest consumer show of the year in Colorado and much, much more.

We also remain committed to be industry leaders in animal welfare and animal testing with new policies in place for the 2010 National Western Junior Market Auction of Champions. Every single Junior Market sale animal will be drug tested and non-sale Junior Market animals will be randomly drug tested.

We're also pursuing our long-range planning. In short, we continue to explore our options. We have had many meetings with different landowners, other jurisdictions, and our advisors on possible funding sources. We are being ever mindful of our proud traditions and legacy of this great institution as we plan for our future.

Thanks to our hardworking staff for once again doing everything possible to organize a great show. And of course, thanks to our 600 volunteers who come from all sectors of the community--rural, urban, private and public. Our volunteers will contribute more than 31,000 hours, assisting in every venue, every department and on every project including taking tickets, acting as guides, taking photos, and helping in the horse and cattle barns.

As you plan your trips to the 2010 show, we encourage you to be an ambassador for your own western spirit. Invite your friends, family, children and neighbors who may not have experienced the fun of our great show, and invite back those that have enjoyed it before. We look forward to seeing you in January.
