Sustainability seminar being offered at K-StateKansas A seminar on sustainability, "Greenhouse Gases, Carbon Taxes and Trading, and Carbon Sequestration," will be offered Jan. 6 to 8, 2010, at Kansas State University. The seminar, in 1052 Rathbone Hall, will focus on climate change exercises, carbon footprinting and greenhouse gas reduction. Participants will hear from experts about tracking and measuring greenhouse gases, various companies' experiences in addressing greenhouse gases and sequestration opportunities for Kansas. Leadership for the course, CHE 670, which may be taken for academic credit or for continuing education, is provided by K-State's Center for Hazardous Substance Research and department of chemical engineering. "Greenhouse gases, carbon taxes and trading, and carbon sequestration have all been in the news recently as leaders discuss the growing importance of reducing greenhouse emissions," said Larry Erickson, director of the Center for Hazardous Substance Research. "This is an increasingly important topic because of global climate change and the need for companies to begin reporting their greenhouse gas emissions." An open public session, "Public Policy Dimensions and Reducing GHG Emissions at K-State and in Communities," will be at 7 p.m., Jan. 6, in 1052 Rathbone Hall.
