Continued dry weather allows harvest to finish upMissouri Continued dry weather allowed most producers to finish harvest and fieldwork during the week ending Dec. 6, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Missouri Field Office, Dec. 7. Topsoil moisture, statewide, is rated 83 percent adequate and 17 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply is rated 88 percent adequate and 12 percent surplus. There were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork. Fall tillage is 48 percent complete, 28 days behind last year and 30 days behind normal. Grain movement from farm to elevator is mostly light to moderate with 37 percent light, 42 percent moderate, and 13 percent heavy. Off-farm storage availability rates 47 percent short, 51 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Some elevators have not been able to keep up with the amount of corn that has to be dried down and have reduced the amount of corn they are accepting. On-farm storage availability rates 46 percent short, 51 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Corn harvest is 92 percent complete, 9 days behind last year, and 21 days behind normal. Harvest increased over 15 points in the northeast district. Over 10 percent of the corn is not harvested in the east-central district and the northern third of the State. The moisture content of corn harvested averaged 17 percent statewide with a range of 15 to 18 percent. Soybean harvest is 97 percent complete, 8 days behind last year and 6 days behind normal. Harvest is complete or near completion in all districts except the east-central and southwest. Cotton harvest is 94 percent complete, 29 days behind last year and 14 days behind normal. The sorghum harvest is 94 percent complete, 8 days behind last year and 15 days behind normal. Harvest in the northwest and northeast districts progressed 15 points. Winter wheat seeding is 78 percent complete, 27 days behind last year and 30 days behind normal. Seeding is complete in the southeast district and near complete in the north-central district. Emergence is at 64 percent, 20 days behind last year and 26 days behind normal. Winter wheat condition is 9 percent poor, 55 percent fair, 35 percent good, and 1 percent excellent. Conditions in the north-central and north east districts are rated 27 and 19 percent poor, respectively. Pasture condition is rated 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 61 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Stock water supplies are 92 percent adequate and 8 percent surplus.
