UNL Crop Production Clinics set for Gering, other locationsNebraska UNL Extension will be sponsoring the first Crop Production Clinics at Gering and seven other locations across Nebraska in January 2010. The Crop Production Clinics succeed the Crop Protection Clinics, which had been conducted annually since 1974. The clinics will provide valuable information to help crop producers and agribusiness professionals improve their profitability and safety. A clinic will be held on Jan. 7 at the Gering Civic Center. Other dates and locations are Jan. 5, Hastings; Jan. 6, North Platte; Jan. 12, Beatrice; Jan. 13, York; Jan. 14, Kearney; Jan. 19, Ainsworth; Jan. 20, Norfolk; and Jan. 21, Fremont. Registration is available online at cpc.unl.edu or at the door. On-site registration is from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. The registration fee is higher if a person is recertifying. The fee includes a noon meal, refreshments, the 2010 Guide for Weed Management in Nebraska and the 2010 Crop Production Clinic Proceedings. The Crop Production Clinics will be the primary venue for commercial and noncommercial pesticide applicators to renew their licenses in the following categories: Ag Plant, Regulatory, and Demonstration/Research (D/R). Representatives from the Nebraska Department of Agriculture will be present to verify attendance. For the first time, the crop production clinics also will serve as a venue for private pesticide applicators to renew their licenses. Those who want to renew private pesticide applicators license will be charged an additional training fee to cover the costs of additional materials they will receive. The Crop Production Clinics will feature presentations from extension specialists and educators on soil fertility, soil water and irrigation management, crop production, pesticide safety, and disease, insect and weed pest management.
