The end of the trail . . . for nowIt's not as if I am sending my own child off to college. But as attached as I have become to reading the All Aboard Wheat Harvest blog this summer, it almost seems that way. Jenna Zeorian started college this week, which means she isn't on the wheat harvest trail with her family anymore. And her fellow blogger, Jada Bulgin, is finishing up wheat harvest in the Dakotas--and so it seems, wheat harvest is over. It has been a fantastic ride--from Oklahoma and Texas, all the way to Montana and South Dakota. We've had the opportunity to experience wheat harvest through a different perspective--through the eyes of two family-owned custom harvesting crews. Some of my favorite moments from the All Aboard Wheat Harvest coverage were: --Meeting farmers from across the High Plains that Jada and Jenna introduced us to as they worked with the crews this summer. --Getting to know the Hoffmans' very much international crew. It doesn't seem possible that anyone could be used to summers in the 50s and 60s, but I suppose if you are from Scotland, that's probably true. --Watching Jenna's video of their trek south and watching their wonderful family at work. --Jenna's photo of a grasshopper. --Visiting Jada's crew and meeting their fan, who drove from Minnesota just to meet them. With the end of the All Aboard Wheat Harvest coverage, we have put together a special section in this week's Journal. It showcases some of the beautiful photos Jada and Jenna took, as well as answers to some of the interesting questions they have received over the summer. The comments and interactions we've had with farmers and consumers through the All Aboard Wheat Harvest have been unbelievable. I would also like to say a special thanks to DuPont Crop Protection, our fellow sponsors, who helped us execute the coverage. Additional thanks go to: Krause, Unverferth Manufacturing, John Deere and U.S. Custom Harvesters, Inc. But most of all, I would like to say thank you to Jada and Jenna for sharing their experiences with us this summer. All Aboard Wheat Harvest will be back next summer and it appears I'll just have to wait until then to get my daily dose of the wheat harvest blog.
