Bazer "grand slams" professional awardsTexas Dr. Fuller Bazer, a distinguished professor in Texas A&M University's department of animal science, is the first individual to be the recipient of all four major awards given by the Society for the Study of Reproduction. The society presented him the 2009 Trainee Mentoring Award at the organization's 42nd annual meeting held in Pittsburgh, Pa. Along with the mentoring award, Bazer also has received the society's three other top awards: the Carl G. Hartman Award, the SSR Research Award and the SSR Distinguished Service Award. The Trainee Mentoring Award is presented to a member who has had significant impact on trainees within the society and has excelled as an academic advisor, becoming a mentor to those with whom they interact. "Dr. Bazer has been and continues to be committed to mentoring young scientists, providing leadership to the scientific community, and supporting his current and former trainees throughout his career. Therefore, Dr. Bazer is most deserving of the SSR Trainee Mentoring Award," according to the meeting brochure. Bazer is a Regents Fellow, holds the O.D. Butler Chair in animal science and is interim head for the department of veterinary pathobiology. He has produced more than 400 scientific articles, reviews and book chapters involving partnerships with more than 90 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
