Central Kansas Extension District will host a Fall Crops Tour in Saline County Sept.3 starting at 5 p.m. The tour features stops at plots of Roundup Ready soybean varieties, grain sorghum hybrids and dryland corn hybrids.
Discussion will focus on soybean production practices for central Kansas, agronomic practices for row crops and 2009 insect concerns and management. The first stop is at 5 p.m., at the Roundup Ready soybean variety and grain sorghum hybrid plots on the Clayton Short farm located just south of the Hwy K- 4/Ohio St. intersection which is 2 miles north of Assaria, Kan. Last stop will be at 6:30 p.m., at the dryland corn hybrid plot on Karber Farms located 4 miles south of Gypsum, Kan., on Gypsum Valley Rd. and 1 1/4 mile west on Hobbs Creek Rd.
Tour speakers include Stu Duncan, K-State Extension agronomist; Jeff Whitworth, Extension entomologist; seed company representatives and cooperating farmers. All area farmers and interested persons are welcome to attend.
A sponsored meal will be served following the tour at St. Patricks Catholic Hall in Gypsum. Please RSVP to the Central Kansas Extension District- Salina office at 785-309-5850.
