Texas ag commisioner announces network that will expose unfounded international trade barriers

On the heels of the recent Tri-National Agriculture Accord meeting with leaders from the United States, Canada and Mexico, Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples announced today the creation of an international Trade Action Network. Effective Aug. 19, TAN will serve as an informational resource for agriculture officials and stakeholders, keeping them apprised of vital international trade issues as they arise.

"The Trade Action Network unifies our partners and provides them with the information they need, when they need it," Commissioner Staples said. "This network uses technology to promote trade practices based on sound science, not political science."

TAN is a multi-faceted resource that will inform federal, state, local and international decision makers, as well as agriculture industry stakeholders, as soon as actions affecting international agricultural trade occur. To become a TAN partner, e-mail TradeActionNetwork@TexasAgriculture.gov or call 877-99-GOTEX. Partners also will have access to correspondence between TDA, USDA and international stakeholders regarding trade issues. These documents will be housed online at www.TexasAgriculture.gov/newsroom under "Reading Room".

This initiative is a result of Commissioner Staples' successful efforts to re-establish international livestock trade in 2008 with Mexico and his continued work to maintain productive working relationships with international trade partners. TAN will ensure transparency and accountability for trade stakeholders.
