Just a scoop fullJuly 29--As of Wednesday morning, July 29, it has rained all around us, about 100 miles in every direction; but, in the middle, we are extremely dry. I am thankful to see others get moisture, as they definitely needed it. We have a chance for rain for the next several days. If you listen to the negative, they will say our chances are probably slim and none. If you listen to the positive, they say we have a good chance for rain for several days. I was talking to a farmer the other day who said he has never seen so many fields this late in the summer that had not been farmed yet. That really does not surprise me as most people are trying to watch their expenses with this shaky economy and the fact that most people's financial statement doesn't look as good as it did a few years ago. Also, the fact that we have gotten so dry, most farmers held off working their ground. And, a lot more farmers are going to no-till farming or little till. I had cattle on most of my farm ground, trying to figure a way to make some money. It is amazing how everything looks from the outside looking in. I had a man talk to me yesterday about buying extra equipment because of the tax problem that he was sure I probably had. I assured him that was not going to be a problem. I took care of any tax problem by keeping cattle in the feedlot these past 2 years. So far, I am still in the optimistic category. I am still thinking that surely we have better days ahead of us. God has been good to me, as he has given me four boys that were at least trainable. Perhaps a little onery, but trainable. I talked to a parent this week who thought their child was untrainable, and was having lots of trouble with him. I said, "I am just curious. Did you spank him?" He said, "No, but I used time-out." I assured him that I used the time-out method, also. That is, if they were acting up--I took a little time out of my schedule to bust them on the rear end. Even the Bible says, "Spare the rod and spoil the child." It's up to you, as a parent, to decide who is in control--you or the child.
