HPJ Associate Editor receives KPC awardsKansas High Plains Journal/Midwest Ag Journal Associate Editor Jennifer Latzke received 11 awards in the 2009 Kansas Professional Communicators Communications Contest. The ceremony was during the KPC annual meeting, April 18, in Wichita. First place entries were forwarded on to the 2009 National Federation of Press Women Communications Contest. Latzke placed first in the Continuing Coverage category with a series of stories about the court challenge to emergency grazing and haying of CRP in 2008. "Career opportunities expand in agriculture," a story detailing new degree options, also received first place in the Special Articles-Agriculture category. That story went on to receive second place in the NFPW contest. A story about rural youth joining the military, "Rural son chose to serve country through enlistment," took first place in the Special Articles-Government or Politics category. And, the Common Ground column, "Show thanks for our 'treasures'," also received first place in the Columns-General category.
