UNL department head Yoder named fellow of international organizationNebraska Ronald Yoder, head of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Biological Systems Engineering, has been named to the 2009 class of American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers Fellows. ASABE is a scientific and educational organization to advance engineering in the fields of agriculture, food and biological systems. Founded in 1907 and headquartered in St. Joseph, Mich., ASABE has 9,000 members representing more than 100 countries. To be considered for election to Fellow, an individual must demonstrate unusual professional distinction, with outstanding qualifications and experience in the field of agricultural engineering. Membership in ASABE for at least 20 years also is required. Only about 2 percent of the active members of ASABE have achieved the grade of Fellow. ASABE cited Yoder for outstanding accomplishments as professor and department head at UNL as well as the University of Tennessee. Since being appointed department head in 2004, Yoder worked on the track replacement at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory and hired its new director. He also coordinated the creation of a new university-wide minor in energy sciences and helped increase the department's endowed scholarship funds. "The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers is made up of members addressing challenges worldwide in agriculture, food, water, energy, the environment and sustainability," Yoder said. "I am humbled and honored to be recognized as a Fellow in the society."
