UN professor receives award

LINCOLN, NEB.,-The Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute Award of Merit was recently awarded to Dr. Jack Schinstock, a professor of Biological Systems Management at the University of Nebraska. The award was presented during the annual NAYI State Dinner last week.

According to Dr. Schinstock's students, he serves as a role model as he has helped prepare thousands of youth to serve as professional agriculturalists in a wide range of mechanized systems managements careers. Many of Dr. Schinstock's students have been youth from rural Nebraska.

Dr. Schinstock works to educate students majoring in Mechanized Systems Management on the diversity of the major, including agricultural operations, mechanization science, processing operations, and mechanization marketing. He also has worked with other University of Nebraska faculty in developing the energy science minor available to students.

"Dr. Schinstock is an outstanding professor and advisor for the University of Nebraska. He takes every opportunity to talk with students and gets to know them and their interests beyond the classroom," said those who nominated Dr. Schinstock.

NAYI is an annual conference, sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, that encourages high school juniors and seniors to learn more about current agricultural issues, develop leadership skills, and cultivate their interest in making agriculture a part of their future.
