Colorado City Dove appreciation day setTexas Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a multi-county Dove Appreciation Day from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 13, in Colorado City. The morning program will be in the C.C. Thompson Room of the City National Bank, located on 2nd Street in the center of town. An afternoon field tour is scheduled at Kirk Morris Farms located northwest of Colorado City at Cuthbert. Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered. "Dove hunting is big business in our area, and this season is shaping up to be a good one," said John Senter, AgriLife Extension agent in Mitchell County. "Dove season is just around the corner, so now is the ideal time for dove enthusiasts to learn what they can expect this year. We have planned this seminar to be a one-stop shop for all things relating to the upcoming season. So, whether you are a hunter, outfitter or landowner, this program should be a priority if dove hunting is in your future." Morning topics and speakers will include: Appreciating Dove, Dr. Dale Rollins, AgriLife Extension wildlife specialist, San Angelo; Laws and Harvest Regulations, Randy Bullard, Mitchell County game warden; Economics of Dove Hunting, Dr. Jason Johnson, AgriLife Extension economist, Stephenville; Food Plot and Shooting Field Management, Ricky Linex, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Parker County; and Understanding Your Liability, Rollins. Topics covered during the afternoon tour will include: shooting field management and inspection, identification of key plants for dove and farm ponds for dove hunting. The seminar is being conducted by AgriLife Extension offices in Mitchell and Scurry counties. Individual registration is $10 by Aug. 10 and $15 thereafter. The fee covers a catered noon meal.
