Financial counseling available to farmers, ranchers
PIERRE, S.D. (AP)--The South Dakota Department of Agriculture is offering free financial counseling for farmers and ranchers hurt by the national economic downturn.
State Agriculture Secretary Bill Even says some farmers and ranchers face financial difficulties because prices are low for pork, beef and milk. He says the Agriculture Department's finance counselors are working to help those hurt by livestock prices that are below the break-even point.
Counselors help farmers and ranchers make financial plans and can help them negotiate with lenders.
Farmers and ranchers can get information on counseling and mediation by calling 605-773-5841.
