State fairgrounds looking at move

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP)--The Arkansas State Fair is continuing its exploration of a possible move from Little Rock.

The state Livestock Association, which sponsors the fair, ran a legal advertisement in the July 26 Arkansas Democrat-Gazette asking for proposals that would provide at least 350 acres. The land would need interstate access and be within 35 miles of the current fairgrounds.

North Little Rock has expressed interest in being home to the fairgrounds, though Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola says it would be less expensive to improve and expand the 135-acre current grounds.

The state fair has been held in its present location since 1945. The area is surrounded by urban development, though Stodola says the grounds could expand into a site now occupied by a public housing project.
