Blues and Barbecue part of Flint Hills Beef Fest

The 10th Annual Flint Hills Beef Fest Blues and Barbecue will once again be held in conjunction with the 23rd Annual Flint Hills Beef Fest. This is a two day sanctioned barbecue competition held Aug. 14 and 15 at the Lyon County Fairgrounds in Emporia.

The state sanctioned barbecue cook off starts with check in and inspection Aug. 14 at 9 a.m. Judging will take place early in the afternoon Aug. 15. There will be six categories in the competition: chicken, pork ribs, pork butts, beef brisket, miscellaneous beef and sausage.

Entry fee is $35 per category or $150 for all six categories. Total prize money of $6,000, and ribbons will be awarded at approximately 2:30 p.m., Aug. 15.
